Kabaka Chwa’s Grandson Daniel Saava Ssemwanga passes on at 78

WAKISO – Daniel Saava Ssemwanga Hanington, grandson of Kabaka Daudi Chwa on Tuesday night passed on at Le Memorial hospital along Kigo road.

His body is lying at Mengo Hospital awaiting a postmortem report. According to unconfirmed sources, Daniel could have died of cardiac arrest as he was fine interacting with his family but died 30 minutes later after being rushed to the hospital.

Dr Ronald Kisolo, Former Uganda Cranes Principle Medical Officer, a brother to the deceased earlier on Wednesday released burial arrangements for the deceased.

Today at 3:00pm, the body is expected to arrive to Kibiri Church of Uganda off Busabala road, Wakiso where a service will be conducted upto 6 pm.

The body will there after be taken to his home which is next to the church in Kibiri.

A Catholic Priest will then conduct a service at his home and a Vigil.

On Friday the late will be laid to rest at 2:00pm in a grave house he constructed years ago on his 10 acres land at his residence in Kibiri.

Saava born 27th November 1944 has been known for generosity and integrity all his life. Speaking to HICGI News Agengy , Monalisa one of the children said her father was a very good timer.

He was an Estates manager of Tea Estates in Toro, Kyamala and other places. He was an agriculturalist and studied from Nairobi, Kenya.

Mather, Jesca, Lutaaya Patrick, Mona, Hilda & Irene

Late Dr Ashe Kitandwe, Grand Father of Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin married Evelyn Chwa , Ssemwanga’s mother who was a daughter of Kabaka Daudi Chwa II, ( Son of Kabaka Danieri Basammula-Ekkere Muwanga II Mukasa , Kabaka of Buganda, between 1884 and 1888 and between 1889 and 1897. )

Chwa was Kabaka of the Kingdom of Buganda from 1897 until 1939 (aged 43) He was the 34th Kabaka of Buganda and has a surviving daughter, Princess Addah Balilara who lives in Bujjuko, Wakiso.

King Chwa’s successor was Kabaka Sir Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Mutesa II (19 November 1924 – 21 November 1969) Mutesa was Kabaka from 22 November 1939 until his death at 45 years.

The reigning Kabaka is Ronald Edward Frederick Kimera Muwenda Mutebi II (born 13 April 1955) is the 36th Kabaka of Buganda. He was proclaimed at Buddo on 24 July 1993 upon the restoration of the Ugandan Kingdoms, by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following the intervention of Godfrey Serunkuma Lule. On 31 July 1993, Mutebi was crowned at Buddo. He assumed the style of “His Majesty”.

President Dr Apollo Milton Obote abolished kingdoms in 1967.
