Nigeria and Canada have shared the spoils in their tight Group B opener in the women’s football World Cup in Melbourne, Australia. Premium Times and FIFA reports that the match ended in a goalless draw. Meanwhile, Japan secured a 5-0 victory over Zambia, and Sweden 2-1 against South Africa.

Earlier, CAF President Patrice Motsepe conveyed a message of encouragement to the African countries participating in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. He encouraged the African teams to emulate Morocco’s Atlas Lions, who reached the semi-finals in their Men’s World Cup 2022 journey, before bowing out to France.

The women’s tournament is hosted by Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023. The four African teams taking part are Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia.
