NRM celebrates 38th Liberation Day in uganda

On 26th January 1996 NRA took over power in Kampala, today Uganda on Friday marked the 38th NRM Liberation Day when the party National Resistance Movement (NRM) overthrew the then sitting government and took over power in 1986 after a five-year guerrilla war in the east African country.

President Yoweri Museveni who led the guerrilla war presided over the celebrations held at St. John Wakitaka Secondary School Playgrounds in the eastern city of Jinja.

The function, which was broadcast live, was held under the theme, “Building a country we all cherish” in line with the ruling NRM party’s Manifesto of 2021-26 “Secure the Future of all Ugandans.”

As we commemorate the 38th Anniversary of NRM’s victory, I want to assure everybody including our visitors and investors that Uganda will remain a peaceful, secure and prosperous country,” he said.

The president said his government will focus on offering free education, provision of healthcare services, and creating opportunities for wealth creation and jobs for the young people in the country.

A total of 53 personalities were decorated and awarded with medals in recognition of their contribution to the liberation struggles in the country.

At least 800 dignitaries including foreign diplomats and thousands of ruling party members and supporters attended the celebrations, according to the national organizing committee. ■
