Adam Mulwana, a name synonymous with Ugandan activism and artistry, breathed his last on February 13, 2024. His life, though cut short, was a testament to his unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom in Uganda.

Described by Dr. Besigye as an “intelligent and creative man,” Mulwana’s musical career was marked by socially charged songs like ‘Kampala Ayola’ and ‘Esala ya Kabaka’. However, it was ‘Toka kwa barabara’ that truly resonated with the Ugandan people, becoming an anthem for their struggle.

Mulwana’s journey from supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government to becoming a staunch critic is a tale of disillusionment and awakening. His growing realization of the government’s lack of focus on the greater good led him to dedicate his life and art to the fight for Uganda’s freedom.

In a statement, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi mourned Mulwana’s passing, highlighting his devotion to the cause. “Adam was more than just an artist; he was a dedicated activist who used his talent to speak truth to power,” Kyagulanyi said.

Despite his ailing health, Mulwana remained committed to the struggle, inspiring many with his resilience and determination. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief, particularly from the opposition, who are set to bid him farewell this Tuesday afternoon in Butambala.

Mulwana’s legacy will live on through his music and the countless lives he touched with his activism. As Kyagulanyi aptly put it, “Adam may no longer be with us, but his spirit will continue to guide our mission for a free and just Uganda.”

In the wake of Mulwana’s passing, Kyagulanyi encouraged others to continue the fight for which the late activist sacrificed so much. “Let us honor Adam’s memory by carrying forward the mission he dedicated his life to,” he said. “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
