Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is concerned about the rampart land grabbing in Buganda affecting the support of the National Resistance Movement – NRM in the region.
In a letter seen by HICGI News Agency, dated 31st May 2024, Museveni says there’s misuse of Government Agencies including Security personnel, RDCs, the Judiciary, and others where criminals grab People’s land and then in collusion with courts, charge the original owners with criminal tress pass. The President says the victims are sent to jail and cases are never heard and say if it’s true this is unacceptable.
Following this directive copied to the Vice President, Jessica Alupo, Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament, Anita Amongi, Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, Rt Hon Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, Minister of Land and, Housing and Urban Development Sam Mayanja and ACP Sussane Kasingye, the meeting on Wednesday was held at Ministry of Lands to implement the Presidential Directive.

Several Government officials including Ms. Phionah Barungi, Senior Presidential Assistant on Special Duties attended this meeting.
Political analysts speaking to HICGI News Agency believe the presidential directive for a probe into land grabbing in Buganda ahead of the 2026 elections will win back people’s hearts to NRM whose performance in the region is grappling as per last polls.
In the recent tours to save forests and wetlands by Presidential Advisor on Environment Prof Gilbert Bukenya, there has been an outcry that authorities selectively apply the law to evict the poor from wetlands leaving the rich to settle with factories and fuel stations.
Sources indicate, that there were numerous complaints before President Museveni on the matter.
The probe will begin on Friday and
HICGI News Agency will give you updates as per Museveni’s directive.
