South Sudan is the world’s newest nation, made up of about 12 million peoplesixty-percent of which are Christians. This new nation is rich in natural and cultural beauty but it is sadly burdened by recent unruly violence, poverty, and instability.

With just over 2 million people displaced by the crisis the conclusion is clear: this is a humanitarian travesty. South Sudan’s humanitarian crisis does not just affect the people within the young nation, but those around it as well. Despite the conflicts that are arising within the nation of South Sudan, the people’s faith remains unwavering.

Their dedication and display of faith is inspiring to all Christians, and demonstrates that even in peril, we can find solace in Jesus Christ.

Inspired by the outpouring and relentless faith of the Christians of South Sudan, Breath of the Spirit Ministries sponsored pastors in South Sudan to host a pastors conference and sponsored their travel and board to attend this conference.

From May 27th to May 29th, Dr. Michelle Corral hosted a pastoral conference bringing revival amongst the ruins to the people of South Sudan during these trying times. This conference hosted over one thousand pastors, coming from 10 countries: South Sudan, Sudan, Rwanda, The Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, and Uganda. Coming from villages, small towns, and refugee camps– risking their lives for revival.

What makes the nature of this pastors’ conference so unique from ones in the past by Breath of the Spirit Ministries is that it was uniquely formed so that all of the pastors would have their way paid by the ministry to attend.

Breath of the Spirit’ s South Sudan Mission 2024

Pastors from all over Africa, coming from towns, rural villages, and small communities, traveled hundreds of miles with the patronage of Breath of the Spirit Ministries to attend the Fire and Anointing conference in South Sudan.

Breath of the Spirit Ministries also hosted a second conference in Mombasa, Kenya. The Kenya conference hosted over 800 pastors, all of which were also housed and received sponsored travel to attend. Breath of the Spirit Ministries sponsored these pastors’ travel, providing for them safe housing and transportation to and from the conference from multiple neighboring nations and rural areas.

All coming together for revival. The effect of this conference goes beyond the individual pastors and their familieswhen apastor receives the word of God, they are exposed to a world of knowledge that they can bring back to their rural villages and small communities.

Through educating them, they receive an opportunity to bring the word of God to countless people that do not have access to Bibles, the internet, churches, or have never heard the name of “Jesus” in their whole lives and would not know who He was without these pastors.

This conference has an intense impact and trickle-down effect not just for the people of South Sudan and Kenya but for people all over Africa.

The pastors’ conference in South Sudan was not just for pastors. On the third day of the conference, it opened up to the public. This means that people who have never heard the name“Jesus” had the opportunity to know Him and be brought to Christ.

These pastors who are on fire for Christ and revival also received aid, groceries, and medicine– during a time of political instability, these items are crucial to the health and well-being of these pastors and their families.

Wearein anera of technology where endless information is at our fingertips, news of the state of the world is never-ending. With so much information and crises coming at us constantly, it is an easier choice to disconnect from what is happening around the world, to become apathetic to crises, or to think “nothing I do will change things so why do anything at all.” However, as Christians, we are called to help in any capacity we can, and collectively as a whole, the world can no longer ignore South Sudan’s cry for help.

Dr. Corral reminds us that when situations of this severity arise, we are faced with an opportunity to be a force of empathy and action or be passive. In that moment of opportunity, we are called to be a force of empathy and action.

Otherwise, we miss out on one of our greatest callings as children of God: to love and care for others as we would ourselves.
