On Monday, Uganda marked a significant milestone in its crude oil development journey with the arrival of the first batch of coated line pipes for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).

This delivery, which was made to the main camp and pipe yard located in Kyotera District, highlights the project developers’ commitment to expedite the construction and laying of the cross-border pipeline, which will connect Uganda and Tanzania.

The pipes were delivered by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co. Ltd (CPP), the designated construction contractor for EACOP. A total of nine trucks carrying insulated line pipes were transported from a coating plant situated in Nzenga, Tabora Region, Tanzania. This delivery is crucial as it sets the stage for the subsequent phases of construction.

With the arrival of these insulated line pipes, CPP is poised to begin the laying of the pipeline in Uganda. The urgency behind this project is underscored by the developers’ goal to export the first barrels of crude oil by the end of next year, as stated in a release from EACOP Ltd. The successful implementation of this pipeline is expected to significantly enhance Uganda’s oil production capacity and facilitate economic growth in the region.
