In a recent address during Uganda’s independence parade, President Yoweri Museveni acknowledged the challenges of unemployment, particularly among the youth.
He stated that while his government is committed to implementing measures to alleviate poverty, it is unrealistic to expect the government to provide employment for every citizen.

The event, which saw 40 individuals, including police officers and members of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, receive medals for their contributions to the country’s independence, highlighted the government’s efforts in recognizing and rewarding service to the nation.
Museveni praised his son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces, for organizing a more efficient and shorter parade this year, showcasing a commitment to enhancing military and civic events.
The president’s remarks come in response to growing concerns about the high unemployment rates among the youth in Uganda. His statements underscore the need for a multifaceted approach to job creation, urging citizens to look beyond government employment as the sole solution to economic challenges.
Museveni emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and private sector growth as vital components in addressing unemployment.
He encouraged young Ugandans to harness their skills and creativity to start their own businesses, suggesting that fostering a culture of innovation could lead to sustainable economic development. By empowering individuals to take initiative, the government aims to create a more resilient economy that can absorb the workforce and reduce dependency on public sector jobs.
