Yahya Sinwar, a top Hamas leader and key architect behind the 7 October attacks, has been killed in Gaza, according to Israeli authorities.
Israel had identified Sinwar as a major target, placing him at the top of its most-wanted list for his role in orchestrating attacks that triggered the ongoing conflict.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog described Sinwar’s activities as driven by “terror, bloodshed, and destabilizing the Middle East.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed this sentiment, calling Sinwar’s involvement in the October attack “the worst massacre in our people’s history since the Holocaust.” He emphasized that Israel’s operation has not concluded, stating, “While we settled the score with him, our task remains unfinished.” Netanyahu pledged that Israel would persist in its offensive until all hostages held by Hamas are freed.
Netanyahu also addressed residents of Gaza directly, asserting that Sinwar was responsible for the suffering they now face. He framed the death of the Hamas leader as an opportunity for Gaza to free itself from what he described as “Hamas’ tyranny,” adding that the end of the war could be in sight with the release of the remaining hostages.
Air Strike on Jabalia Shelter Causes Civilian Casualties
In a related development, local authorities in Gaza reported that an Israeli airstrike struck a school-turned-shelter in Jabalia, a northern district of Gaza. The strike reportedly killed 22 civilians. Israel claimed that the site was being used as a gathering point for operatives from Hamas and Islamic Jihad, but Hamas has denied the allegation.
These incidents reflect the continuing intensity of the conflict, with Israel maintaining its objective to dismantle Hamas while balancing international scrutiny over civilian casualties in Gaza.
