
Nigeria’s Army Chief, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has passed away at the age of 56 after a “period of illness,” as confirmed by President Bola Tinubu. The military leader died on Tuesday night in Lagos, although the specifics of his illness have not been made public.

President Tinubu expressed his profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the late general. In a statement shared on X by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the president conveyed his sympathy, acknowledging the significant contributions of Lt Gen Lagbaja to the nation’s military and national security.
“President Tinubu wishes Lt General Lagbaja eternal peace and honors his significant contributions to the nation,” the statement read, paying tribute to the late army chief’s service to the country.
