Hezbollah’s media chief, Mohammed Afif, has been confirmed dead following an Israeli airstrike that targeted central Beirut on Sunday.
The attack struck the headquarters of the Lebanese branch of the Syrian Baath party, located in the densely populated Ras al-Naba neighborhood, a central area of the capital.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, the Israeli strike caused significant damage to the Baath party’s headquarters, with much of the building being destroyed. Rescue teams and civil defense units rushed to the scene to assist those trapped under the rubble, while emergency personnel worked to extract victims from the wreckage.
The Lebanese health ministry reported that four people were killed in the attack, including Afif, who had been a prominent spokesperson for Hezbollah. Additionally, at least 14 people were injured in the strike, though the identities of the other victims have not been disclosed.
Hezbollah confirmed the death of Mohammed Afif several hours after the initial reports emerged. Afif, one of the last visible public figures of the group, was seen just a day earlier on Monday, when he held a press conference in Beirut’s southern suburbs, a stronghold of Hezbollah activity.
The strike highlights the ongoing tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, as well as the volatile security situation in Lebanon amid the broader regional conflict. The attack, which also targeted a political party building associated with Syria’s ruling Baath party, underscores the complexity of the conflict and the variety of targets involved.
