Gomba, Uganda – November 21, 2024:
Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukiga District, Ivan Kamuntu Semakula, alias Majambere, was remanded to custody following his appearance in Gomba Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
He faces charges related to the theft of 157 cows, valued at approximately Shs318 million, and allegations of land grabbing. The cows, according to authorities, were stolen and transported to an undisclosed location.

Majambere, who is accused of conspiring with accomplices to carry out the theft, was charged with conspiracy to defraud, stealing cattle, and criminal trespass. The charges stem from an incident where the stolen cattle were allegedly taken from their rightful owner without consent. Authorities are currently investigating the role of Majambere and his accomplices in the orchestrated crime.
The court session was presided over by Magistrate Pauline Sabakaki, who ordered Majambere’s remand pending further investigations. His arrest has sent shockwaves through the local community, given his position as a Deputy RDC, a role that typically holds considerable influence in local administration.
Majambere’s legal team has yet to comment on the charges. However, his appearance in court marks a significant development in the ongoing probe into land and property-related crimes in the region. The case has raised concerns about the abuse of power by public officials and the potential for corruption within local government structures.
Authorities have vowed to ensure that the investigation proceeds without bias and to hold anyone found guilty accountable, regardless of their position. The stolen cattle are still missing, and law enforcement officials are working to trace their whereabouts.
The remand of Majambere has raised questions about corruption and land disputes involving powerful figures in the region. More details are expected as the case unfolds.
