Kampala, Uganda – The State Minister for Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, Amos Lugoloobi, has been directed to defend himself in a case involving the alleged diversion of 700 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region.
The iron sheets, which were part of government relief supplies, were reportedly diverted for personal use, including at the minister’s farm in Kayunga District and other locations.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga of the High Court Anti-Corruption Division, who found the evidence presented by the two prosecutors sufficient to require the minister’s explanation. The court emphasized that the materials, intended for socio-economic support in Karamoja, had instead been misappropriated.
This case has sparked national outrage, with Lugoloobi accused of abusing his position and violating public trust. The alleged misuse of the relief materials, meant to aid one of Uganda’s poorest regions, highlights broader concerns about corruption in public administration.
Lugoloobi has denied the allegations but now faces the challenge of explaining how the iron sheets ended up in unauthorized locations, including his private farm. The case forms part of a wider investigation into the mismanagement of relief supplies meant for Karamoja, with several high-ranking officials implicated in similar scandals.
Justice Kajuga’s directive marks a significant step in holding public officials accountable, signaling a stronger stance against corruption. Minister Lugoloobi is expected to present his defense in the coming weeks, as the public awaits clarity and justice in the high-profile case.
