Kampala, Uganda – As the world marks International Anti-Corruption Day, the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms. Betty Kamya, has called for collective efforts to eradicate corruption in Uganda.
Speaking during a congregation at Rubaga Cathedral, Ms. Kamya highlighted the complicity of some religious institutions in perpetuating corruption.

In her address, the IGG pointed out that corrupt individuals often share stolen wealth with churches and mosques, indirectly implicating them in the vice. She urged these institutions to take a stand and reject ill-gotten money. “Corruption will not stop unless everyone gets involved in the fight. We need religious leaders to stand firm and refuse to accept money from corrupt sources,” Ms. Kamya stated.
Ms. Kamya emphasized that fighting corruption requires a holistic approach involving all sectors of society. She urged the public to expose corrupt practices and support initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and accountability.
The IGG reaffirmed her office’s commitment to intensifying efforts in the fight against corruption. She noted that tackling the issue is not only a moral obligation but also crucial for the country’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
International Anti-Corruption Day, observed annually on December 9, serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to combat corruption and build a society based on integrity and fairness. Ms. Kamya’s remarks come at a time when Uganda continues to grapple with widespread corruption, which undermines public trust and hampers progress.
Religious leaders and congregants were urged to reflect on their roles in promoting ethical behavior and fostering a culture of integrity. The IGG’s message was a clarion call for a united front against one of the country’s most pressing challenges.
