In a tragic incident in the south-western Nigerian city of Ibadan, 35 children lost their lives, and six others were hospitalized following a crush at a Christmas funfair. The event, which was intended to bring joy, turned into a disaster when an overwhelming number of attendees caused a stampede.
The organisers of the event had promised cash handouts and food, attracting a crowd of over 5,000 children. The crush occurred when the main organisers arrived to kick off the event, leading to chaos as attendees struggled to gain entry.

While the exact sequence of events leading to the tragedy has not yet been disclosed, police have arrested eight people in connection with the incident, including the main organiser, Naomi Silekunola, a prominent figure in the city.
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving parents and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The Oyo state government confirmed that victims had been transported to hospitals across Ibadan for treatment.
The crush took place at the Islamic High School in the Bashorun district of Ibadan. Authorities have urged concerned parents to visit local hospitals to check on the whereabouts of their children.
This tragic event has left the community in mourning, and investigations are ongoing to determine the factors that led to the devastating loss of young lives.
