The Kremlin has denied reports that Asma al-Assad, the British-born wife of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, has filed for divorce. Speaking in a news conference, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed the claims as unfounded, saying, “No, they do not correspond to reality.”
Recent speculation in Turkish media suggested that Asma al-Assad was seeking to end her marriage and leave Russia. These reports also claimed she wanted to return to London, her birthplace, despite the UK government previously barring her entry.

Bashar al-Assad and his wife have been living in Russia since a rebel coalition overthrew the Assad regime and seized control of Damascus. Russia, a staunch ally of Assad during Syria’s civil war, granted asylum to the former president and his family.
The Turkish reports further alleged that the Assads were under severe restrictions in Moscow, with Bashar confined to the Russian capital and his property assets frozen. However, Peskov categorically denied these claims as well.
Asma al-Assad holds dual Syrian-British nationality. While she reportedly wishes to return to the UK, the British government, citing her role in the former regime, has previously stated she would not be allowed to re-enter the country.
The Kremlin’s response comes amidst growing speculation about the Assads’ situation in Russia, where they remain in exile following their fall from power.
