The Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Gen Salim Saleh, has expressed frustration over the continuous influx of musicians seeking financial support at his home in Gulu. Since the 2021 general election, numerous musicians have been turning to the President Museveni’s younger brother for assistance.

Gen Saleh, a key figure in government initiatives to boost wealth creation and economic empowerment, has become a magnet for artists hoping to secure funding for their projects. Many of these musicians cite financial difficulties and limited opportunities in the entertainment industry as reasons for their appeals.
The trend reportedly escalated after the 2021 elections, during which several artists actively participated in political campaigns. Some musicians allege they were left financially strained after campaigning for various political parties and now see Gen Saleh as a potential savior.
Despite his reputation for generosity, Gen Saleh has reportedly grown weary of the unending visits. “I’m tired of musicians flocking to my home,” he lamented, hinting at the pressure he faces as a result of these appeals.
While some observers view the musicians’ actions as a sign of desperation in a struggling industry, others criticize the dependency culture, urging artists to explore self-sustaining avenues for growth. Meanwhile, the situation continues to highlight the challenges facing Uganda’s entertainment sector and the blurred lines between politics and the arts.
