The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has called on men to reconsider the increasing trend of conducting DNA tests to ascertain paternity. Speaking during a recent address, Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the importance of love and care in family relationships over biological connections.

He encouraged men to take inspiration from Joseph in the Bible, who lovingly raised Jesus Christ as his own son, despite not being his biological father. “Joseph never questioned God’s plan; he chose love, care, and responsibility. This is a lesson for all men today,” Dr. Kaziimba said.
The Archbishop expressed concern over the emotional and social disruption caused by the surge in DNA testing, particularly in African societies where family bonds traditionally hold significant value. He warned that these tests, while providing clarity in some cases, often lead to unnecessary conflicts and the breakdown of families.
Dr. Kaziimba urged men to prioritize building trust, love, and unity within their families. He called on society to address challenges through dialogue and mutual understanding rather than resorting to measures that could strain relationships.
The Archbishop’s remarks come amidst a growing trend in Uganda and other countries where DNA tests are increasingly being used to resolve paternity disputes. His message highlighted the need for a broader conversation about family values, responsibility, and the role of unconditional love in nurturing strong family units.
Dr. Kaziimba’s appeal has sparked discussions on the balance between science and faith in addressing sensitive issues within families, with many reflecting on the Archbishop’s call for compassion and understanding.
