WHO Chief and UN Staff Caught in Israeli Air Strike at Yemen’s Sanaa Airport.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, along with other United Nations staff, narrowly escaped harm during an Israeli air strike at Yemen’s Sanaa International Airport on Thursday.

The incident occurred as the WHO team was preparing to board their flight. In a social media post, Tedros confirmed the air strike, stating, “One of our plane’s crew members was injured.” Tragically, the attack claimed the lives of two individuals at the airport.

The air strikes, which also targeted power stations and ports, have resulted in at least three fatalities and left more than a dozen people injured, according to Houthi-run media outlets. The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group has condemned the strikes as “barbaric,” while Israel has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

This escalation has raised concerns about the safety of humanitarian operations in Yemen, already grappling with one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The international community is monitoring the situation closely as tensions continue to rise in the region.
