Two weeks ago, Bishop David Kiganda and family declined to announce the death of their beloved mother and grandmother Restetutah Nampijja.
KAMPALA & MASAKA- Restetutah Nampijja, mother of Bishop David Livingstone Kiganda passed away at the age of 84. She died on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Bishop Kiganda’s residence in Bwebajja, where she was receiving care from her family.
According to family sources, Maama Restetutah had been battling heart related issues including high blood pressure for an extended period. Her condition took her at several medical facilities, including Case Clinic, the Heart Institute in Nakasero, and Mulago Hospital.
A memorial service in her honor was held on Friday at Christianity Focus Center. Thousands of mourners, including family, friends, city pastors and well-wishers gathered at Christianity Focus Centre, Mengo Kisenyi, Kampala, to celebrate her life. The event was also graced by government officials such as Hon. David Bahati (Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives), Al Hajji Erias Lukwago (Kampala Lord Mayor)and other dignitaries.
In his eulogy, Bishop David Kiganda described his mother as a woman of enduring character and a firm disciplinarian. He fondly recounted her tireless efforts to raise her children, transitioning them from a rural upbringing to an urban environment. Despite limited resources, she prioritized their education and instilled in them strong moral values.

Renowned preacher Apostle Alex Mitala told mourners that it’s time believers especially pastors to by their own land as burial ground just like Abraham did. His urgement is that that extended family graveyards may easily be sold by upcoming generations. He also cites witchcraft on extended family graveyards.
In his message, Christian Life Church leader Pastor and proprietor of 89.6 Top Radio and TV, Jackson Ssenyonga described Bishop Kiganda as kingdom supporter who began supporting preachers many years ago as a business man.
Presiding Apostle Dr. Joseph Sserwada said Kiganda is a warrior who faced a big challenge but contained it for 5 days until the feastive season was over.
State House Head of Investors Protection Unit Col Edith Nakalema in her message said government stands with Bishop Kiganda and expressed condolences.
Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago said Born Agains should draft there own Law to regulate them before Parliament comes up with their own which will be terrible.
Hon David Bahati described Bishop Kiganda as a close friend during his speech.
Mama Restetutah Nampijja was laid to rest on Saturday in Kasanje, Masaka. Her legacy of love, resilience, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew her.
