Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya Dies at 37.

The political scene has been shaken by the tragic news of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya’s death early this morning. The Member of Parliament for Kawempe North succumbed to complications resulting from an illness he developed while incarcerated. His passing comes after a long and difficult period, during which he was imprisoned under what many consider to be false charges.

Ssegirinya, a prominent figure in Uganda’s opposition politics and a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), was falsely accused of orchestrating the notorious Masaka massacres. Speculation is already circulating about the possibility of a by-election in the Kawempe North constituency. The situation at Lubaga Hospital, where the late Hon. Ssegirinya’s body is currently, is calm but tense. While the family is still coming to terms with their loss, political figures from both sides of the aisle are expected to arrive in the coming days to pay their respects.
