As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, President Yoweri Museveni has called on leaders and supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to actively engage in the voter register verification process. This move comes ahead of the crucial electoral exercise scheduled to take place from January 20 to February 10, 2025.
In a letter directed to members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), National Executive Council (NEC), Members of Parliament (MPs), and other NRM leaders at the district, sub-county, and parish levels, Museveni emphasized the importance of ensuring that the voter registers are accurate and up-to-date.

“This is your opportunity to confirm that your name, as well as the names of people you know in your area, are on the register,” Museveni wrote. He further urged leaders to take the initiative in assisting their communities to identify and remove the names of deceased individuals from the voter registers. Additionally, he highlighted the need to ensure that all eligible voters, particularly young people who have reached the age of 18, are included in the list.
The verification process forms a vital part of the electoral roadmap, which has been rolled out by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) in preparation for the 2026 general elections. These elections will include Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government positions.
Museveni’s call for active participation in the voter register verification reflects his commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. By encouraging NRM leaders to be proactive, the president aims to create a clean and accurate voter register, which will be crucial for the integrity of the upcoming elections.
