Firefighters in Los Angeles have made significant progress in combating some of the smaller wildfires, with one fire fully contained and another nearly extinguished.
However, the two largest blazes continue to spread, creating a dangerous situation for residents and emergency crews alike. Despite these efforts, the strong winds forecasted for the coming days present a major challenge, with officials warning that the fire threat remains “very high.”

At least 16 people have lost their lives in the ongoing wildfires, with authorities focused on the recovery of remains from areas now deemed safe for crews to enter. These fires have destroyed homes and disrupted communities across the region, leaving many residents with a sense of devastation and loss.
A retired firefighter, who has lived in the affected area for 30 years, shared his harrowing experience with the BBC. He described how embers from the fires were falling onto his property as he fought to save his neighborhood. “I’m still processing it,” he said, reflecting on the trauma of watching the flames come so close to his home.
As the fires continue to rage, attention has turned to the weather conditions expected later in the week. The National Weather Service has issued warnings of high winds starting Sunday night, which could worsen the fire danger across Los Angeles County. Emergency officials have stated that they are prepared to face these conditions, which could make the situation even more unpredictable and volatile.
In the midst of the crisis, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed confidence that President-elect Donald Trump would visit the fire-affected areas, despite his earlier criticism of California’s handling of the fires. Trump had referred to state politicians as “incompetent” in managing the disaster. Nonetheless, local officials remain focused on the immediate task of containing the fires and supporting the thousands of residents affected by the ongoing disaster.
As firefighters continue their battle against the blazes, the focus remains on preventing further loss of life and minimizing the impact of the fires as the weather conditions evolve.
