East Africa is exploring a strategic partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), connecting Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan.

“As part of the plan, we have agreed to conduct a feasibility study on extending the SGR due to its potential to foster regional integration and promote trade,” said President William Ruto during his visit to the UAE.

In Abu Dhabi, President Ruto held discussions with UAE Investment Minister Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties, including UAE investments in Kenya’s infrastructure and agricultural sectors.

Key agreements included UAE’s involvement in the Galana-Kulalu irrigation project and other agricultural initiatives aimed at bolstering Kenya’s food security agenda. This collaboration underscores Kenya’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity and addressing pressing development challenges.
