Zelenskyy: “Europe Needs a United Defense.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the creation of a united European defense strategy to strengthen the continent’s security and ensure lasting peace. Speaking during an extraordinary session of the European Parliament, Zelenskyy emphasized the critical need for Europe to take greater responsibility for its collective defense in the face of Russia’s aggression.

“A united European defense is not just a matter of security for Ukraine—it is a safeguard for the entire continent,” Zelenskyy said. He highlighted that unity among European nations, combined with strategic partnerships, has the potential to deter any future threats and uphold the principles of freedom and democracy.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that the war in Ukraine has demonstrated the importance of a coordinated and robust defense framework, calling on the EU to enhance its military capabilities, streamline decision-making processes, and increase investments in advanced technologies.

“Together, we have shown that Europe’s strength lies in its unity. Now, we must translate this unity into a defense system capable of protecting every European nation. A strong Europe is a safe Europe,” he concluded.

Zelenskyy’s appeal aligns with growing discussions within the EU on creating a more cohesive and independent European defense strategy, reflecting the need for greater autonomy in responding to global security challenges.
