Uganda Airlines has suspended its flights to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), following escalating unrest and violent protests. The decision to halt the airline’s operations came after angry demonstrators attacked several foreign embassies in the city, including Uganda’s diplomatic mission.
According to Uganda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem, the ongoing disturbances have led to significant damage at the Ugandan embassy in Kinshasa. “Chairs, desks, tables have been looted. The curtains have also been pulled out,” Oryem said, painting a stark picture of the damage inflicted by the protestors.

The unrest in Kinshasa has been largely driven by rising tensions between the two neighboring countries, which have historically had a complex relationship. The situation remains volatile, and the Ugandan government has expressed concerns over the safety of its citizens and diplomatic staff in the region.
In light of the current instability, Uganda Airlines has decided to suspend all flights to Kinshasa until the situation improves. This decision highlights the growing concerns regarding the safety of airline staff and passengers, as well as the broader political and security environment in the DRC.
The suspension of flights marks another setback in regional connectivity, as the DRC and Uganda work to address the underlying issues contributing to the unrest. The Ugandan government has called for calm and urged the international community to assist in restoring peace and stability to the DRC.
