Shelling at Sudanese Market Kills Dozens in Omdurman.

A deadly shelling attack on a busy market in the Sudanese city of Omdurman has resulted in significant casualties, filling local mortuaries with bodies. The attack, which took place on Saturday, left more than 100 people either dead or injured, according to the medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and Sudanese authorities.

The paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been blamed for the assault, though the RSF has denied any involvement. The majority of those killed in the attack were women and children, according to the Sudanese Doctors’ Union.

The shelling occurred in a market area near Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, in a region that has been severely affected by ongoing conflict between the RSF and Sudan’s army. The two forces have been engaged in a brutal civil war for over 22 months, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and causing a humanitarian crisis. The United Nations has described the conflict as one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world today.

As the violence continues to escalate, aid organizations like MSF are struggling to cope with the scale of the disaster, as civilians bear the brunt of the ongoing fighting. The situation remains dire, with little indication that peace is on the horizon.
