According to the club’s official website, the 23-year-old joins City on a four-and-a-half-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2029.

A versatile midfielder, Gonzalez becomes City’s fourth signing of the winter window, following Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Omar Marmoush as the latest additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Gonzalez’s footballing journey began in 2013 at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.

He later broke into Barcelona’s first team, making 37 appearances for the club.

Gonzalez enjoyed a successful season-long loan at Valencia before making a permanent move to Porto in 2023.

Since joining the Portuguese side, he has made 68 appearances and scored nine goals, including the decisive strike in Porto’s 1-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Europa League last Thursday.

Gonzalez has described his move to Manchester City as a “perfect opportunity” and says he is eager to get started.

“This is the perfect opportunity for me at this stage of my career,” he said.

“I’m 23 and want to test myself in England, and there’s no better club than Manchester City to do that.

“Just look at the squad here—it’s unbelievable, full of world-class players. There isn’t a footballer in the world who wouldn’t want to be part of this setup.

“I know the reputation Pep has, and I can’t wait to work with him. In fact, I’m honored he wants me in his team.

“I’m truly excited. I just want to meet my teammates, get to know the staff, and play in front of the City fans!”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain praised Gonzalez’s talent and expressed his delight at securing the deal.

“Nico is a very talented young midfielder and an ideal signing for Manchester City,” he said.

“This was a challenging transfer to complete because his performances this season have been outstanding, and he has been a key player for FC Porto. We’re thrilled to have finalized the move before the window closed.

“He is ready to contribute immediately as we compete in the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Club World Cup.”

Everyone at Manchester City is delighted to welcome Nico to the club and wishes him all the best during his time here.
