Wakiso, Uganda – The Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Anita Among, has announced her intention to seek re-election for the speakership in the 2026–2031 term, stating that she will run unopposed.

Among made the declaration while attending the annual general meeting of the Uganda District Councils’ Speakers Association (UDICOSA) in Wakiso District. She expressed confidence in her leadership and affirmed that no contender would challenge her bid for another term.
During her speech, Among also outlined her future plans, revealing that after serving a second term as Speaker, she intends to pass on the role to her deputy, Thomas Tayebwa. This statement suggests a structured succession plan within the parliamentary leadership.
Anita Among, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District, has held the Speaker’s position since 2022. Under her leadership, Parliament has navigated key legislative matters and national policies.
Her declaration for the 2026–2031 speakership race signals continuity in Uganda’s legislative leadership, reinforcing her influence within the political landscape.
