French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived at the White House for discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on the ongoing war in Ukraine. The meeting coincides with the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, a conflict that has led to widespread devastation and international diplomatic efforts to secure peace.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the war could be concluded within the year. Speaking at a summit of Western leaders in Kyiv, he emphasized the urgency of ending hostilities but warned that Ukraine requires strong security guarantees to prevent further aggression from Moscow. He suggested that membership in the European Union and NATO would serve as crucial protective measures, despite Russia’s consistent opposition to Ukraine joining these alliances.

In a separate statement, Zelensky proposed that a potential peace deal with Russia could begin with a full exchange of prisoners. Such a move, he suggested, could serve as a trust-building measure in broader negotiations aimed at ending the war.

Meanwhile, a Ukrainian official revealed that the U.S. and Ukraine are close to finalizing a minerals deal. This agreement is expected to strengthen economic and strategic ties between the two nations, particularly in securing essential resources for defense and energy sectors.

As Macron and Trump meet, their discussions will likely focus on military aid, diplomatic strategies, and long-term security arrangements for Ukraine. The outcome of their talks could have significant implications for the future of the conflict and Ukraine’s position on the global stage.
