Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his willingness to step down from his position if it would secure peace and NATO membership for Ukraine. His remarks came during a news conference ahead of the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“If to achieve peace you really need me to give up my post – I’m ready. I can trade it for NATO membership if there are such conditions,” Zelensky stated, highlighting his commitment to Ukraine’s long-term security and stability.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions about Ukraine’s potential NATO accession, a move that has been strongly opposed by Russia. Ukraine has been seeking membership in the alliance as a way to bolster its defense against further aggression, but the process has faced obstacles due to the ongoing war and political considerations among NATO members.

Zelensky’s statement also follows recent criticism from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who referred to him as a “dictator without elections.” In response, Zelensky dismissed the comment, saying, “I wasn’t offended, but a dictator would be,” emphasizing that he was democratically elected in May 2019.

As Ukraine continues to fight against Russian forces, Zelensky’s willingness to make personal sacrifices underscores the high stakes of the war and the urgent need for a resolution that ensures Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
