Nigerian Footballer  Dies After Alleged Fall from Ugandan Shopping Mall.

Kajjansi Police Division is investigating the tragic death of Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, a professional player for Vipers Sports Club, who allegedly fell from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade on the morning of February 24, 2025.

According to preliminary police reports, Lawal arrived at the shopping mall in his vehicle, registration number UBQ 695G, to visit his friend Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national residing in room 416 since February 20, 2025. Naima told authorities that she left Lawal in her room preparing tea and went to a nearby game center within the mall. However, shortly after, at approximately 8:00 AM, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony.

Bystanders immediately rushed the footballer to Entebbe Referral Hospital, but medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival. Lawal’s belongings, including two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers, were recovered from his black backpack at the scene.

Authorities are treating the incident as suspicious and have launched a full investigation. CCTV footage is being retrieved, and witnesses, including Naima, are being interrogated to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.

Lawal was a key player for Vipers Sports Club, and his sudden passing has shocked the football community. The police have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
