Kampala, February 24, 2025 – The National Unity Platform (NUP) has accused security forces of theft, alleging that officers took millions of shillings, electronic devices, party merchandise, and key documents during recent operations against the opposition party.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, made these remarks during a press conference on February 24, where he introduced several party foot soldiers and electoral committee officials who had been released. Their freedom came midway through the event, highlighting ongoing tensions between the opposition and the government.

Kyagulanyi condemned the security forces’ actions, stating that the arrests and confiscations were part of a broader campaign to weaken the opposition ahead of upcoming political activities. He insisted that such measures would not deter NUP from its mission of advocating for democracy and justice.
The party further called for accountability from the authorities, demanding the return of the seized items and compensation for the losses incurred. Meanwhile, government officials have yet to respond to the allegations.
The incident adds to the growing friction between Uganda’s opposition and security agencies, with NUP continuously accusing the government of suppressing dissent through arbitrary arrests and intimidation.
