
Masaka, February 26, 2025 – Three civilian guards affiliated with opposition leader Bobi Wine have been remanded to prison on charges of robbery and malicious damage to property.
The accused, identified as Achilleo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya, and Grace Wakabi Smart, appeared before the Masaka Chief Magistrate’s Court, where they were formally charged. The presiding Magistrate, Judge Abudallah Kayiza, ordered their remand as investigations continue.

According to prosecution reports, the three allegedly attacked Margaret Kayonda, a journalist working with Radio Simba. They are accused of destroying her camera and phone during the incident.
The arrests of Kivumbi, Mugumya, and Wakabi come amid a wave of detentions targeting supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP). Many opposition members have reportedly disappeared for days before resurfacing in detention.
The accused will remain in custody as they await further court proceedings.
