UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with US President Donald Trump at the White House for high-level discussions on Ukraine and defense. The meeting marks an important diplomatic engagement between the two leaders as they strengthen ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Before their discussions, Starmer presented Trump with a letter from King Charles III, formally inviting him for a state visit to the UK. Trump accepted the invitation, expressing his appreciation for the country. “The United Kingdom is a wonderful country that I know very well. I’m there a lot,” he said, also describing Starmer as “a special man.”
The meeting also touched on defense spending, an area of mutual interest. Earlier, a US official noted that Trump was “very pleased” with Starmer’s recent announcement that the UK would increase its defense budget to 2.5% of GDP by 2027, up from the current 2.3%. The move aligns with US interests in strengthening NATO and European security.
In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to arrive at the White House on Friday. During his visit, he will sign what Trump has described as a “very big agreement” on minerals, a deal that could have significant implications for Ukraine’s economic and strategic partnerships.
The meeting between Starmer and Trump highlights the ongoing collaboration between the UK and US on key global issues, reinforcing their commitment to defense and security cooperation.
