Pope Francis’ health has been a subject of concern lately, but his doctors say he’s not in danger of death at the moment. He’s been hospitalized since February 14 for treatment of a respiratory infection, specifically double pneumonia, which requires at least another week of hospitalization.

Rumors about his resignation have been circulating, but Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, dean of the College of Cardinals, has denied these rumors, stating that the pope is recovering and will return to the Vatican in a few days. Pope Francis himself has also addressed resignation rumors, saying he would consider resigning if he could no longer run the Church due to poor health, but only if that were the case.

The pope’s health issues are likely related to his age and previous lung surgery. Dr. Barbara Moscatelli, a pulmonary specialist, explained that patients with chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) are more prone to polymicrobial infections, which can be challenging to treat.

Despite these challenges, Pope Francis’ medical team is optimistic about his recovery. They’ve reported that he’s responding well to treatment and is even able to walk and pray in the hospital chapel.
