Kampala, Uganda – Chaos broke out in Komamboga, Kawempe North, as police forcefully dispersed supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) ahead of Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi’s final rally for the upcoming parliamentary by-election. The violent confrontation left one person with a broken leg, heightening tensions in the area.
The incident occurred as President Yoweri Museveni, who also serves as the National Chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), was preparing to campaign for the NRM candidate, Faridah Nambi. Museveni’s rally was scheduled to take place at Kawempe Mbogo Muslim Primary School Grounds, where he was expected to address voters and drum up support for Nambi.

Kawempe North has been a hotbed of political activity since the passing of former MP Muhammad Ssegirinya in January. The by-election has attracted fierce competition between the opposition NUP and the ruling NRM, with both parties determined to secure control of the constituency.
As the campaign period nears its climax, concerns about election-related violence and intimidation continue to grow. The latest clash in Komamboga has only fueled these fears, with many residents and political observers warning that the situation could escalate further in the days leading up to the by-election. Authorities have yet to comment on the altercation, but tensions remain high as the constituency braces for a heated electoral contest.
