Putin Supports Ukraine Ceasefire but Insists on ‘Enduring Peace’.

Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia supports a ceasefire in Ukraine but insists that any agreement must lead to “enduring peace” and address the root causes of the ongoing conflict. Speaking on the matter, Putin acknowledged that the idea of a ceasefire is “good and we absolutely support it,” but he emphasized that there are key issues that need to be discussed before any formal agreement can be reached.

His statement comes as Steve Witkoff, an envoy from former U.S. President Donald Trump, is in Moscow ahead of anticipated U.S.-Russia talks on a proposed 30-day ceasefire. The visit signals possible diplomatic maneuvering between Washington and Moscow, but it remains unclear how the White House will interpret Putin’s stance.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin has announced that Russia is in the final stages of its military operation aimed at pushing Ukrainian forces out of Kursk, a region where tensions have escalated in recent weeks. The development suggests that Russia seeks to establish more control before engaging in substantive negotiations.

The biggest question now is how the U.S. government will respond to Putin’s statement and whether it will influence ongoing efforts to broker peace. While Putin’s remarks indicate a willingness to negotiate, his demand for a broader resolution to the conflict suggests that achieving a ceasefire may not be immediate or straightforward.
