The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which had lasted for just two months, has been decisively broken. Overnight, Israeli airstrikes pounded Gaza, signaling a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict. The attacks have reignited fears of further bloodshed and devastation in the region.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the strikes were necessary due to Hamas’ refusal to release hostages and its continued threats against Israeli soldiers and civilians. This justification has been a consistent theme since the war began on October 7, 2023. Israel’s primary objectives remain the same: securing the release of 251 hostages and dismantling Hamas’ military and governing infrastructure.

According to an Israeli official, these airstrikes mark the beginning of a larger military campaign designed to pressure Hamas into freeing more hostages. This strategy aligns with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s stance that military force is the most effective way to achieve Israel’s goals in Gaza.

With the ceasefire shattered, the conflict has entered a dangerous new phase, leaving little hope for a peaceful resolution in the near future.
