The newly elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, is set to be sworn in tomorrow, according to an official announcement by Speaker of Parliament Anita Among.

Gazettement and Delay in Swearing-In

Nalukoola’s official gazettement was published on March 24, 2025, in the Extraordinary Uganda Gazette, Vol. CXVIII No. 24, by the Electoral Commission. The gazettement is a crucial legal step that confirms a candidate’s election and allows for the swearing-in process to proceed.

His swearing-in had faced delays, sparking concern among some members of parliament. Speaker Among clarified that the delay was not due to parliamentary procedures but rather the time taken by the Electoral Commission to complete the gazettement process. She reassured lawmakers that the process was now complete, and Nalukoola would officially assume his parliamentary role without further delays.

Significance of the Swearing-In

Once sworn in, Nalukoola will formally begin his duties as the Kawempe North representative in Parliament. His entry into the legislative body is expected to strengthen representation for his constituency, which has been awaiting active leadership in the national assembly.

Nalukoola’s victory marks a significant political development in Kawempe North, a constituency that has been closely watched due to its political dynamics. His swearing-in will enable him to participate in parliamentary debates, contribute to policy-making, and address the concerns of his constituents.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by key parliamentary officials, members of Nalukoola’s political party, and supporters from Kawempe North.
