
Kampala, March 26, 2026 – Heavy morning rains have caused massive flooding across Kampala, leaving at least seven people dead and causing widespread destruction. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as emergency response teams continue rescue efforts.
The devastating floods that hit Kampala early Wednesday morning, causing widespread destruction across the city. Authorities have confirmed that heavy rains swept away homes, vehicles, and residents, leading to multiple fatalities.

Among the victims was George Bogere, an employee of the US Embassy in Kampala. Bogere drowned in Kasangati while riding a motorcycle. His body was later recovered from the Lutete area alongside another unidentified male victim, according to the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
In a separate tragic incident, two young children drowned inside their locked home in Mulimira Zone, Bukoto. The victims, identified as three-year-old Eliza Otim Kisa and 11-month-old Chon Ochaka, were found dead after their mother, Rose Mary Lenunu, allegedly left them unattended during the storm. Police arrested Lenunu and charged her with negligence.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the drowning of two young children in Mulimira Zone, Bukoto, after being left alone in a locked house,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson of the Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Authorities continue to assess the damage caused by the floods as rescue and recovery efforts remain ongoing. The heavy rains have left many residents displaced and caused significant disruptions across the city.
