Rescue operations are still underway on Lake Victoria following a tragic boat accident that left at least seven people missing. The ill-fated boat, commonly known as the Kinsale, was transporting sacks of charcoal from Kalangala to Nakiwogo in Entebbe when it capsized.
According to one of the survivors, Moses Bukenya, the boat had picked up multiple sacks of charcoal from different landing sites, including Kivunza. It is believed that the heavy load may have contributed to the accident.

Bukenya recounted the harrowing experience, saying some of his colleagues held onto charcoal bags in a desperate attempt to stay afloat. “For me, I kept swimming until I spotted another boat and called for help. It is that boat which rescued five of us; others drowned,” he shared.
The exact number of passengers on board at the time of the incident remains unclear. Authorities and local rescue teams are continuing the search for the seven missing individuals, hoping to find survivors.
The tragedy has raised concerns about overloading and safety measures on boats operating on Lake Victoria. More details are expected as the rescue mission progresses.
