Twelve-year-old boy accidentally kills 10-year-old cousin during play

A tragic incident unfolded in Pader district, northern Uganda, on Saturday when a 12-year-old boy accidentally killed his 10-year-old cousin during a play session that turned fatal.

The deceased, Solomon Ogen-rwot, was playing with his cousin at around 5 pm in Mila Village, Paiula parish, Paiula sub-county, when the incident occurred.

According to Ballex Okello, the LC V councilor for Paiula sub-county, the older boy had fashioned a toy spear by tying a blunt knife to a stick.

While they played, he threw the makeshift spear, which struck Ogen-rwot in the neck. Ogen-rwot was rushed to Pajule health centre IV but was pronounced dead around 6 p.m.

His body has since been taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. The two boys, who were cousins from the same extended family, had been living with their grandparents.

Their mothers who are sisters had both returned to their parental home. Aswa East Regional police spokesperson, Joe Oloya, confirmed that a full investigation into the incident is underway, and further details will be released in due course.
