KOLOLO, Kampala – Global attention is turning to Uganda following a remarkable development: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the country’s longest-serving leader, has signed a powerful declaration addressing critical national concerns—including the protection of Uganda’s mineral wealth, an end to torture, shed of innocent blood and injustice, and a call for peaceful political transition.

The declaration was presented during the closing ceremony of the Light Up Jesus Crusade, a five-day Christian revival held at Kololo Independence Grounds and organized by Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, Museveni’s daughter. Patience, who leads the Covenant Nations Church based near Luzira Prison on the shores of Lake Victoria, has recently risen to prominence as a spiritual leader.

Joined by her husband, Odrek Rwabwogo, the couple has spent months mobilizing influential Pentecostal pastors and Anglican bishops in revival meetings across Uganda. These nationwide gatherings culminated in the Kololo crusade, which featured American televangelist Dr. LaDonna Osborn, daughter of the legendary missionary T.L. Osborn—who preached in Uganda over 40 years ago during a period of spiritual and political upheaval.

The crusade opened with a men’s conference on Monday, where Odrek Rwabwogo made headlines by challenging the controversial Bachwezi revival ideology, which is said to be admired by First Son and CDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In the days that followed, leading pastors led powerful sessions of national repentance, praying for spiritual renewal and justice in Uganda.

At the final gathering, Pastor Patience, alongside other faith leaders, read a declaration denouncing sin, impunity, and systemic injustice. The document called for:

An end to torture and human rights abuses Protection of Uganda’s mineral resources for national benefit Cessation of the shedding of innocent blood A clear and peaceful roadmap for political transition.

President Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni—who also serves as Minister of Education and Sports—publicly signed the declaration, signaling an unexpected and significant shift that has drawn attention from international observers and diplomatic circles alike.

Museveni, who took power by military force in 1986, will mark 40 years in office next year as Uganda heads toward a pivotal election. With the nation having never experienced a peaceful transfer of power, religious leaders are now openly advocating for one.

The momentous signing has sparked widespread reactions, and HICGI News Agency is actively updating this developing story with speeches and reactions from President Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, Pastor Patience Rwabwogo, Dr. LaDonna Osborn, and various church leaders.
