US President Donald Trump has criticized Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, calling him ‘absolutely crazy’ following Moscow’s largest aerial assault on Ukraine, which killed at least 12 people and injured dozens more.
Trump expressed his dismay over the attack in a statement on his Truth Social platform late Sunday, marking a rare rebuke of Putin.”
According to recent reports on his Truth social platform, marked a rare rebuke of Putin.
Donald Trump’s recent statement about Vladimir Putin seems quite surprising, given their history of interactions. In February 2025, Trump and Putin had a phone call that lasted about an hour and a half, where they discussed various issues, including the situation in Ukraine.
Trump described the conversation as “lengthy and very productive”. Following the call, Trump announced an agreement to begin immediate negotiations to end military action in Ukraine.
It’s interesting to note that Trump has previously expressed a desire to work closely with Putin to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict. In fact, Trump instructed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to lead the peace negotiations.
However, Trump’s recent claim that Putin has “gone absolutely CRAZY” marks a significant shift in tone.

Russia’s recent attack on Ukraine involved a record number of drones and missiles, with 298 drones and 69 missiles launched, and Ukraine’s Air Force claiming to have downed 266 drones and 45 missiles.
This attack is notable for being the largest in terms of the number of weapons fired, although other strikes have resulted in higher casualties.
Ukraine’s emergency services described a climate of ‘terror’ nationwide on Sunday after a brutal attack. Regional officials reported fatalities among children, including those aged eight, 12 and 17, in the Zhytomyr region.
Over 60 people were injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack on social media, emphasizing the need for strong pressure on Russia’s leadership to halt the brutality. He criticized the silence of countries like America, stating it emboldens Putin. Zelenskyy suggested sanctions could be an effective measure.
The United Nations has also condemned such attacks, stressing they’re prohibited under international humanitarian law. A senior UN official demanded these attacks stop during an emergency Security Council meeting.
Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with Vladimir Putin’s handling of the Ukraine war, which has now been ongoing for three years.
This frustration marks a shift in tone from Trump, who had previously boasted about his friendly relationship with Putin and claimed he could resolve the conflict quickly if elected. Trump had even suggested Russia was more willing to negotiate a peace deal than Ukraine.
Recent developments indicate Trump’s patience is wearing thin. Finnish President Alexander Stubb revealed that Trump is “losing patience” with Putin’s stalling tactics on a ceasefire.

Trump had even considered meeting Putin in person to push for an end to the war, but Russia canceled the planned talks at the last minute.
Trump expressed frustration with Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine, stating, ‘I’m not happy with what Putin’s doing. He’s killing a lot of people.
In a social media post, Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of ‘doing his country no favors by talking the way he does’.
This marks a shift in Trump’s tone, as he previously expressed trust in Putin’s willingness to negotiate peace with Ukraine. Trump believes both leaders are open to diplomacy and thinks a strong deal mediated by the US could be imminent.
