ENTEBBE- Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has flagged off the country’s first shipment of powdered milk to Algeria during a ceremony held at State House, Entebbe. The initial consignment consists of 500 units and marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s agricultural exports.

The export deal stems from President Museveni’s state visit to Algeria in March 2023, during which he held productive discussions with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Among the key topics was Algeria’s interest in importing Ugandan dairy products.
HICGI News Agency reached out to the Algerian Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Amokrane Jimad, who commented on the development:
“Since my accreditation as Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda, my efforts have borne fruit. I am happy to see both the Algerian public and private sectors begin importing powdered milk from Uganda, in line with the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Yoweri Museveni.”
Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, who attended the ceremony alongside other government officials, shared his enthusiasm in a tweet:
“Today was an exciting day for us at the ministry, as we accompanied H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to flag off the first milk export consignment by Brookside Dairy to Algeria—a market our President secured during his 2023 state visit. I congratulate the dairy sector for this milestone!”
During the 2023 state visit, Presidents Museveni and Tebboune oversaw the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding across various sectors, and held discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment between the two nations. The visit also featured the first-ever Algeria-Uganda Business Forum held in Algiers.

This marked President Museveni’s second official visit to Algeria, the first being in October 2015 at the invitation of then-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, during which Uganda inaugurated its first diplomatic mission in the country.
Uganda and Algeria continue to enjoy warm and fraternal bilateral relations, underpinned by strong collaboration at regional, continental, and international levels. Both countries actively engage through organizations such as the African Union (AU), the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the United Nations.
