“Marry Me” — Bishop Michael Kyazze Proposes to His Wife Again After 37 Years

In a touching and dramatic gesture, Ugandan Pentecostal cleric Bishop Michael Kyazze, Lead Pastor of Omega Healing Centre and President of the Coalition of Pentecostal Evangelicals (COPE), surprised his wife, Christine Kyazze Ssonko, with a renewed marriage proposal during a Marriage Banquet held at their church in Namasuba along Entebbe Road.

The banquet, which brought together romantic couples in a beautifully decorated setting, turned emotional when Bishop Kyazze—dressed elegantly in a white jacket—knelt down and lovingly asked Christine to marry him again, despite already being married for 37 years.

Addressing the audience, he said, “Let me date Christine again,” before reciting a heartfelt poem that took everyone back to their youthful love story, which began in secondary school.

“The first time I met her, she was on her way to the water well. I greeted her and followed her there. I asked her to marry me, and when I returned home, I told my mother, ‘I have found a wife.’ My mother, excited, asked for her name. I realized I hadn’t asked, so I made one up and told her, ‘She’s called Gamba.’”

Bishop Kyazze waited patiently for Christine to complete her education, and they eventually got married eight years later—a union that has now stood the test of time for nearly four decades.
