Congressman Clay Higgins of Louisiana states, President Trump has a mandate from the American people to address illegal and dangerous immigration, during an appearence on the programme today.

Clay Higgins is a Republican U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 3rd congressional district, serving on the House Homeland Security Committee.

He has expressed strong views on immigration, emphasizing the need for proper vetting and accountability. Higgins supports stricter border security and has advocated for measures to address potential national security threats posed by immigrants who weren’t properly vetted or have overstayed their visas

Congressman Higgins defends the travel ban, stating that allowing entry to the US is a “privilege, not a right.” He emphasizes that Americans are frustrated with immigrants violating laws and committing violence, and asserts the US has the right to control its borders, denying claims of racism.

Barnard criticizes the travel ban, stating there’s no clear logic behind the country selection. She notes many listed countries are plagued by conflict, violence, and human rights issues, suggesting the ban targets unwanted migrants.

Barnard calls the list “punitive,” implying the administration aims to create chaos in the immigration system.

The Trump administration’s travel ban restricts travel from 19 countries, citing national security concerns.

Critics argue the ban unfairly targets countries with predominantly Muslim or African populations, raising questions about its legality and potential religious discrimination.

This time, the order doesn’t just target majority Muslim nations. Trump says the rationale for the countries chosen is based on visa overstay rates or political instability.

The new travel ban affects 19 countries, with no specified end date, unlike the previous ban which lasted 90-120 days. Iran, Libya, and Somalia are among the countries that appear on both lists.

Donald Trump said a recent attack in Boulder, Colorado where 12 people were injured when a man attacked a group gathering in support of Israel hostages “underscored the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreign nationals who are not properly vetted as well as those who come here as temporary visitors and overstay their visas”.

Donald Trump’s stance on immigration emphasizes the need for strict vetting and screening processes.

He believes the US can’t have open migration from countries where thorough background checks aren’t possible, stating, “We don’t want them”.
