San Francisco Unicorns opener Finn Allen smashed a record 19 sixes during a blistering 151 off just 51 balls against defending champions Washington Freedom in the opening match of the new Major League Cricket (MLC) season.

The New Zealand international’s explosive innings on Thursday evening at Oakland Coliseum marked the highest individual score in the T20 league since its debut in 2023.

Allen’s six-hitting masterclass broke the previous T20 record of 18 sixes, jointly held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle and Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, the latter achieving the feat in the European Cricket League.

The San Francisco Unicorns posted a record MLC team total of 269/5, with Allen reaching his century in just 34 balls. His assault came against a bowling attack featuring fellow New Zealand internationals Ben Sears, Rachin Ravindra, and Glenn Phillips.

Allen’s explosive innings came to an end in the 18th over when Glenn Phillips took a catch at long-on off the bowling of Mitchell Owen, dismissing the 26-year-old.

In reply, Washington Freedom led by Australian international Glenn Maxwell—were bowled out for just 146 in 13.1 overs, slumping to a heavy 123-run defeat.
