Benny Hinn Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Fallen Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart

By Dr. Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin, L.H.D. (Hon.)

ORLANDO, FL — July 1, 2025 — Renowned televangelist and healing minister Benny Hinn has paid an emotional tribute to his longtime colleague and fellow evangelist, Rev. Jimmy Swaggart, following news of his passing at the age of 90.

In a statement released Tuesday, Pastor Hinn reflected on Swaggart’s extraordinary life and impact, describing him as “a mighty servant of God” whose legacy will endure for generations.

“Even as we grieve Jimmy Swaggart’s passing from this earth,” Hinn said, “we rejoice at his home-going. From my earliest days as a new believer in Canada, I was captivated by how mightily he was used by God.”

Hinn recalled Swaggart’s rise from humble beginnings in Ferriday, Louisiana, where he was born on March 15, 1935, growing up alongside soon-to-be-famous cousins—rock ‘n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis and country star Mickey Gilley. Swaggart and his wife Frances began their ministry traveling across the American South in a donated flatbed trailer, passionately preaching the Gospel. Over time, he became one of the most widely recognized evangelists in the United States and beyond.

“His crusades drew multitudes, his music inspired millions, and his broadcasts brought the message of Jesus Christ into homes around the world,” Hinn said, highlighting Swaggart’s founding of SonLife Broadcasting Network, Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, and his decades-long leadership at Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Swaggart, an accomplished gospel musician, sold over 15 million records and authored more than 50 books, including his autobiography To Cross a River. He also held the distinction of being the longest-broadcasting American evangelist in history.

Hinn fondly remembered moments of personal ministry shared with Swaggart during the 1980s, calling them “precious opportunities to witness his unwavering love for Jesus and his relentless passion for souls.”

“Those who knew him understood his deep desire to do whatever it took to bring the Gospel to others,” Hinn said. “He lived to preach Christ and did so with an unmistakable anointing.”

He concluded his tribute by calling for prayers for Swaggart’s wife Frances, his son Donnie, and the entire Swaggart family and ministry team during this time of mourning.

“While we join his loved ones in grieving this great loss,” Hinn said, “we also celebrate our dear brother’s reunion in heaven with the Lord Jesus, whom he served faithfully. I can only imagine the glory he is experiencing now.”

Swaggart’s ministry spanned over six decades, touching lives across continents and denominations. His influence remains deeply etched into the landscape of global Christian evangelism.
